Paul D. Daugherty is a passionate champion for philanthropy, the nonprofit sector, effective collaborations, and bolstering rural communities. He is deeply committed to helping grantmaking foundations, companies, and individual donors (philanthropy) maximize their giving impact to strengthen West Virginia, central Appalachia, and rural communities.
In 2011, Paul joined Philanthropy West Virginia as its President & CEO. He along with a diverse leadership team of board members, staff, and partners have together transformed the organization to strengthen West Virginia’s philanthropic and nonprofit sectors. Philanthropy West Virginia has accomplished landmark work on multiple fronts by doubling its membership, serving as the state’s center for corporate responsibility, creating the WV Nonprofit Association, delivering national funder partnerships, advancing beneficial federal and state policy for philanthropy and nonprofits, consulting and professional development to numerous boards, staff, and donors, and most recently coordinating a statewide response to COVID-19.
Currently, Paul serves as a board member of United Philanthropy Forum and Leadership West Virginia, co-chairs the West Virginia Impact Commission, and is a member of the Forum’s National Public Policy Committee and the West Virginia 2020 Census Commission. In the past he has served the local, state, and national community as a board member, chair, founder, and/or advisor to numerous charitable, policy, faith-based, and/or government boards, committees, and/or commissions.
In January 2020, Paul was named a Presidential Leadership Scholar (PLS), the first West Virginian to be a part of this prestigious national leadership program. He was previously honored with the 2017 National Association of Secretary of State Award for Extraordinary Efforts to Advance Charitable & Philanthropic Endeavors, a 2016-2017 Independent Sector’s American Express NGEN Fellowship, appointed to the 2015 Georgetown University McDonough School of Business’ Global Social Enterprise Institute’s New Strategies Forum, 2014 West Virginia Young Gun, and other honors. Under his leadership, Philanthropy WV was honored with the 2019 WV Nonprofit Association’s Nonprofit Excellence Award. He is a graduate of West Virginia Wesleyan College and a native of Doddridge County, WV. He is married to the brilliant Dr. Chelsea M. Stillman which recently they welcomed a beautiful and brave baby girl in late July.
